My name is Sahba Syed and I am from Lucknow UP. My 5 year old daughter was diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy at the age of 22 months and although her therapy started from the very next day; I hadn't a clue what therapist were doing and why. My colleague (from Kerala) told me about Dr.Nivedita and gave her no. to my surprise even though she never knew me but still responded beautifully to the voice of a desperate mother and explained to me in a layperson's language what is happening and what is needed. Later when I met her in New Delhi (she was visiting her daughter and still took time to see us) she proposed if we could come to Thrissure, Kerala even for a month, it will do much good.

My first visit to Thrissure Rehabilitation Centre was for a month only but in that short period I learned the true meaning of not only therapy but also got to learn a different outlook where special need parents are making their way best to make their children functional and independent; and all that is happening there under the guidance and facilitation of Dr.Nivedita and her wonderful team. I decided to spend some more time in the centre and returned within a year and this time stayed for six and a half months.

We spend half the day at centre where Dr.Nivedita, Dr.Anwar, Dr.Nancy, Dr. Sumita and Vidya and Sridevi Chechi helped with every aspect of therapy to attain an overall development goal for my daughter; sometimes playfully , sometimes very seriously. If I say that it was a wonderful experience and I and my daughter gained a lot, it's not an exaggeration at all but too less to summed up. As I was an outstation patient they not only treated my daughter but trained me simultaneously so that I can carry this on later on my own. One wonderful aspect of therapy that I learned there is; no matter what your child's condition is; therapy cannot be done in isolation you have to focus on every aspect of development. Also the fact that therapy is not something that we do in clinics only but we have to build every minute in such a way (without burdening ourselves extra) that child is never doing anything without an objective; no matter how small it is.

Dr.Nivedita further guided me to seek inputs from other places as well and still she is there with me all the time. she encouraged me to send updates on regular basis and gives her inputs on phone also. I regularly send her videos and she takes her time to see and to respond to them. I can just go on and on but summing up I can say that with Dr.Nivedita's help not only my daughter's treatment is on the right track but I too gained a friend and mentor in her and for my daughter she is always her "Fairy God Mother".
